Previous Update: May Update
It’s second half of the year now! Let’s see how June 2020 went.
I bought things in June
New glasses
Well, as I mentioned in my May update – my eyesight went really bad.
I had to get a new glasses prescription last month because my power went up – by an extra 100. Yes, it’s that bad. I can’t survive without glasses anymore. Anyway, my no-buy year mindset shows its positive effect on the way I chose my glasses. I went through and tried a bunch of frames and I found one that I liked but then my brain was like “Nuh-uh yours are still good. Nope, just change the glasses”. So I just changed the glasses with my good 2 years old frame.
Instead of spending at least RM500 for new glasses and frame altogether, I just paid RM150 for the powered-up glasses. Yeay, patting myself in the back.
By the way, I could get a cheap one for way less than that but it does not have that blue light protection for screen time or something… with fancy name something… sigh I have to ask my optometrist again the type of glasses I got. But I guess it’s good to spend that extra bucks to have more protection.
New books
Now that I get to buy books (check out my May update again!), I have to admit it can be difficult to control my tendency to hoard books. Whenever I almost grab new ones, I keep reminding myself that I have quite a number of unread books at home. That seems to help. Good thing about this – I read faster and more now! Because I want to buy a new one haha.
So all in all, June is good.
Mid-Year Review
As we have made it halfway through the year – let’s make a mid-year review! Did I breach any rules? Opps…
Things I can’t buy
- Apparel and clothing
This is the hardest temptation and challenge! Especially when there are sales. But I did it! I bought nothing. I’m proud of this. - Books
You know how this turned out, aha! - Electronic devices and accessories
I buy nothing out of wants but alahh there was this one time I left my charger at the office on a Friday and I only have my powerbank without the cable with me. Tried to borrow from others but no matching cable. Going back to the office would take one hour back and forth so I just bought a new one for RM12. Gulp. - Supplements
Nothing at all! In fact, I had to throw out my unfinished expired supplements from last year. - Stationery and notebooks
None! - Home décor
None! - Knickknacks
None!
Things I can buy / spend on / paying for
- Health
I’m all good this whole 6 months. No clinic or pharmacy trip at all. Syukur. - Monthly bills
I canceled my gym last month! No more monthly gym membership payment. Other than that, all’s the same. - Groceries and food
I. Must. Start. Cooking. I spent quite a lot on groceries and food. - Skincare and makeup
No new makeup at all! I got a new serum but not in breach of any rules I believe, check it out here. - Family / gifts / donations
Despite still having pay cut due to this pandemic, I still managed to give some. Syukur again. - Travel / social / dates / activities
Way less because of the lockdown.
Things I may (but preferably not) buy
- Baju raya
None! Coveid this year is a blessing in disguise. - Luggage
I got a set of 3 different sizes on sale for RM165! - Yoga mat
I got one for RM79. Good purchase as I have canceled gym.
Verdict
Total spent for (quite unnecessary but still within the rules) purchases
= (– RM256).
Total saved for the first 6 months of 2020
= RM10,000.

Yes, I hit my first RM10k ever!! Ever!
Mind-blown. I have to sit down and cherish this moment. RM10k. SAVED BY ME?! ME?! Unimaginable 6 months ago.
I’m pumped. Let’s continue figuringgitout.
Next update: July Update
Congrats on ur rm 10k!!
